1. LL.M. Overview
The Master of Laws in International Crime and Justice is jointly organised by the Faculty of Law at the University of Turin and the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI). The LL.M. is taught in English and is designed for those who seek a deeper understanding of international criminal law and crime prevention instruments, as well as activities of international organisations and tribunals in this area.
Luis Moreno-Ocampo Prosecutor of the ICC
This LL.M. offers students a combination of academic training and practical experience in an unparalleled setting at the United Nations Campus in Turin. It aims to provide an in-depth knowledge of the theoretical and practical international instruments and tools for the prevention and punishment of international and transnational crimes such as terrorism and trafficking in persons.
Starting from the roles played by international organisations, in particular the United Nations and its subsidiary bodies, the Master presents the main international conventions and laws about interstate judicial assistance and cooperation, within the context of international criminal law - crimes, penalties, and jurisdictions.
The programme examines technical aspects related to the specific features of international jurisdictions and extensive up-to-date analysis of the activities of international criminal tribunals and special courts.
In particular, the LL.M. is designed for:
- University Graduates in Law, Political Science, International Relations, Criminology, or equivalent disciplines
- Young professionals in governmental institutions, local authorities, international organisations or NGOs seeking to specialise in international criminal justice
The programme offers a unique insight into the activities and policies of the United Nations as well as other international organisations and international tribunals, providing students with the expertise required for working in the area of international crime and justice. The lecturers are experts from nationally and internationally recognised academic and research institutions, as well as practitioners from the UN System and special courts.
The nine-month course is held on the beautiful United Nations Campus in Turin, Italy.
The Campus is located on 10 hectares of riverside parkland and hosts other national and international organisations including ITCILO, UNSSC, UNESCO and SIOI. It also offers leisure time, dining, and sports facilities to its guests. From 2005 to 2010, the Campus hosted more than 23,000 trainees from all over the world.
