The International Summer School examines emerging global challenges related to the migration phenomenon and from the perspective of the United Nations and the European Union, providing participants with specialized knowledge of the field.

As the host of several important EU and UN organizations working in the field of training, research and technical assistance, Turin is an ideal location for this international Course.

The International Summer School is co-organized by the European Training Foundation (ETF), the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI), the Faculty of Law of the University of Torino, the International Training Center of the ILO (ITC-ILO), the University Institute of European Studies (IUSE), with the financial support of Compagnia di San Paolo.

The Course is organized in cooperation with the International and European Forum of Migration Research (FIERI) and under the auspices of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the International Institute of Humanitarian Law.

Programme Objective and Contents

The Course aims to provide participants with specialized knowledge of the economic, legal and social aspects related to immigration flows within the EU system.

In particular, the programme will focus on:

  • EU Migration policies
  • EU Legal status and rights of immigrants
  • Civil rights of immigrants
  • Expulsion for illegal entry and crimes within the EU
  • Trafficking in human beings
  • Radicalization
  • EU External relations and human resources development
  • Skills development for legal migrants
  • Integration models
  • Generations of immigrants in Europe

Faculty

Lessons will be held by international experts, University professors and officials coming from International Organisations and European Institutions.
